Precepts that pickup the feelings of an Army that looks for its fellow citizens a respected and free homeland.
The Army Honor code of the and its sustentation was edited by General Alvaro Valencia Tovar, General Carlos Alberto Ospina Ovalle, National Army Commander, Major General Freddy Padilla de Leon, Army General Inspector; and the captain (Rva.) Carmen Roca Visbal. The same one picks up the feelings of an Army that has forged its history starting at the Liberty Campaign until our days, looking to achieve for their countrymen a respected and liberated homeland, in harmonious prosperity with order and social justice.
National Army: 200 years of Sacrifices, Courage and Nobility
The Colombian National Army code summarizes 200 years of the ethical ideals of its Soldiers; 200 years of sacrifices, courage and nobility; 200 years of a dream committed with the construction and preservation of the institutionality as the base for democracy.
The same one verses on ethical, moral and civic values, with full respect to the human dignity, pillar of the fundamental rights guided by order, justice and freedom principles. Accepting orders with discipline, intelligence and responsibility.
As the President Alvaro Uribe Vélez recently affirmed: "in a democracy, the Armed forces of the Republic are the only Army of the People. The guarantee of the people. They assure with their dissuasive force the sacred right to the self-determination, they protect the defenseless citizens in their fundamental rights and they impede, with their coercible back that the sovereignty will be whisked away."
The Colombian Soldier serves to the Homeland motivated by altruistic ideals. Today, as yesterday - when with honor and courage placed the foundations of the Freedom -, he defends the postulates that give identity to the Nation, and builds the bases for the tolerance and respect for the other people's rights.
Such a service offers that national and foreign managers can invest in areas that strengthen the productive apparatus, new employments are generated, and full harmony can be settled down in the diverse socio-economic relationships. Parallel to this, like it was recently expressed in homage to the Military Forces, the president of the Institute of Political Sciences, Alberto Galofre Cano, is urgent that the fellow compatriots exalt and recognize those citizens that stimulate the honest work and that likewise these receive the frank and resolved protection by the State.
A protection, which, committed and responsibly offers the Military Forces, which generates the sensation of security and creates the necessary conditions so that the country can emerge harmless towards a better tomorrow. Doctor Galofre recognizes: "The individual or collective efforts are not given or it is not generated if it exists the uncertainty if the benefits obtained and the security of those who make an effort to achieve them, are not guaranteed on by the State, and the State cannot offer this guarantee without a motivated and strong Armed Forces."
Each victory, each operational success, each drawn obstacle, which places near peace and prosperity its fellow citizens. A peace that yearns from the deepest of their heart and that it pursues in each corner of the way. A dream imagined for their children and grandsons, a possible tomorrow for the people who saw him born. As General Douglas Mac Arthur U.S. Army once said: "The soldier, above any other person, prays for peace, because he must suffer and bear with the deepest wounds and scars of the war."
With courage, he confronts the challenges, still in the most unfortunate days, and he gives everything in the execution of the mission. There is not any contingence that can make him give up: neither the solitude, neither the distance between him and his relatives, neither the inclemency of the climate, nor the pain... "The soldier is the true man, vigorous and lusty, brave and firm, not only disciplined against the elements and against the enemy, but also against itself, against his weaknesses", the philosopher Jenofonte affirmed.
That firm commitment assumes the character of solemn, and it implies fidelity to the Homeland and to its flag, as well as body spirit feeling. This commitment imposes sacrifices, even, the most noble and heighten of all: offer their life in the altar of the Homeland.
The mission of preserving the nationality is commended, when saying of the former president Alberto Lleras Camargo, to "... the best, the most straight and the fairest" so that they are who "establish the balance when it is need."
- As a Soldier of the Homeland: I commit solemnly to profess loyalty and fidelity to Colombia and my Army, in defense of the Republic, the freedom and the democracy.
- The honor will be my first military virtue and my inspiration source. I will observe discipline in all places and all circumstances.
- Due to my vocation, I am and I will always be a loyal soldier with service spirit. My Army will never be embarrassed of me!
- I will be fair in my decisions and wise in the use of the force.
- I will cultivate honesty and sobriety, and I will be vigilant, frugal and constant worker in my duties and matters.
- I will never disclose information that has been given to me and I will keep silent and reserve on the service matters.
- I will be brave, courageous and serene of spirit during combat, and without expecting more recompense than the one knowing that I fulfilled God's will, in order to achieve the greatness of my Homeland and the glory of my Army.
- I will never abandon my superiors, partners or subordinates in action, or in any other occasion.
- I will be magnanimous in the victory and proud in the honorable defeat.
- I will moderate, generous and compassionate with the fatigued or captured enemy. If I am taken prisioner or kidnapped, i will continue resisting by all the possible means available and I will make all the possible efforts to escape and recover my freedom.
¡Colombian Army: never conquered and never for my fault!
