Florencia. Bearing in mind the fact that we are celebrating the year of strengthening respect for Human Rights, the Chief of State and the second in command of the military Armed Forces, Admiral Rene Moreno Moreno, the Inspector from the General Command of the Armed Forces, General Eduardo Behar Benitez and the inspector of the Colombian National Army General Carlos Orlando Quiroga Ferreira, along with their staff visited the installations at the 6th Division Command Center and participated in an update seminar regarding the standards, laws and provisions regarding Human Rights, and International Humanitarian Law.
Respecting an individual’s warrantees is a right that is stated in the Constitution and it is a pillar on which our military forces execute their offense operations. Within the framework of the consultation plan and the compliance of in the directors of the Ministry that must be communicated down to the last level regarding the commitment of the Colombian State to enforce compliance on the current humanitarian standards.
The meeting took place at Cantón Militar de Florencia with the presence of more than a hundred members with high-ranking officers and the commander Brigadier General Jorge Octavio Ardila Silva, the commanders of Jungle Brigades 12, 27 and 26, and the commanders of their tactical units. Likewise, the commanders of the Southern Naval Force and the Aerial Combat Command 6, had the opportunity to participate in this important talk that seeks to strengthen the development of military operations within the framework of legitimacy and legality.
At the same time, they are seeking to strengthen human rights trying to promote in each one of the men and women who are part of the military forces to continue enforcing the directions and policies issued from the Ministry of Defense and the Army Command for the respect of human life.
“We are and we will continue to be a great army, focused on providing protection to the civil population and combating the illegally armed organizations who constantly violate the rights of the Colombian people”, stated Sixth Division commander, Brigadier General Jorge Octavio Ardila Silva, during the closing of the event.
