The Organization of American States condemned last Sunday’s FARC attack burning to death four adults and two children near the town of Ospina Pérez, Department of Nariño.
“The actions perpetrated constitute a serious violation to international humanitarian treaties and an act of unjustified violence against innocent people,” stated the Secretary-General of the OAS, José Miguel Insulza, in a recent communiqué.
A FARC column attacked and set fire to a bus full of passengers last Friday, among them the six fatal victims, the event taken place some 700 km southeast of Bogotá, where police and army troops usually confront guerrilla factions.
These actions against the civil population “do not contribute to forging pathways to solving the difficult situation of public order and this region of the country and it violates fundamental human rights of the population,” the organization added.
“The OAS repudiates these types of actions and calls out to all those actors to seize hostilities and all regions of the country,” it emphasized.
