All the way from Putumayo, the Chief of State assured that the care of the ecosystem is the countrys contribution toward global warming. "We have to accredit our capacity to stop the destruction of the forests, before the world. It is a necessity," he said.
President Alvaro Uribe requested members of the Armed Forces and the Police help protect the countrys jungles.
This request was made by the Chief of State during his visit to Puerto Ospina, Putumayo, and from there he also sent his Christmas greeting to all Colombians.
The ruler assured that the protection of the ecosystem is the countrys contribution against global warming.
President Uribe requested that Minister of Defense, Gabriel Silva Luján, asked the public Armed Forces to arrive at every corner where trees are being cut down, and defend those resources.
He stated that this is one of the ways to show the international community the commitment of the country with the environment.
"We have to accredit our capacity to stop the destruction of the forests, before the world. It is a necessity," he warned.
President Uribe manifested in his concern for the accusation made in Ecuador regarding Colombias not protecting the border that divides the two nations.
He stated that the area is not only extensive, but it has also been hit by terrorism.
"It truly worries me when government, the people of Ecuador, make complaints that Colombia does not watch over its frontiers. You know that that border has been pounded by terrorists, and it is they who have overpowered the frontier. We have made a great effort to improve protection of this border, but the frontier with Ecuador is nearly 580 km long," he pointed out.
