Last year, 2,128 guerilla members of the FARC, 492 from the Eln and 18 from dissident groups decided to abandon the terrorist ranks. Since August 7th of 2002, 20,555 armed-group members operating at the margin of the law have individually demobilized.
During 2009, a total of 2,638 guerillas have individually demobilized, reported the Demobilized Humanitarian Attention Program (Pahd).
Last year, 2,128 members of the Farc, 492 from Eln and 18 dissident groups decided to abandon the guerilla ranks. According to the Padh, 221 were minors, and 593 were women.
These persons deserted their cause due to the abuse that they received from the different organizations and as a result from the military pressure applied by the National Armed Forces .They decided to surrender to the following authorities: 2,343 to the Public Armed Forces; 205 to the DAS; 82 to the Colombian Family Welfare Dept (Icbf); and 3, to the Prosecutors office of the and 2 to the District Attorney.
The departments in which the 2009 surrenders were greatest were registered in Cundinamarca, 382; Antioquia, 269; Valle del Cauca, 265 and Meta, 225 cases. The remaining demobilizations were registered in the rest of the regions of the country in lesser numbers.
With these demobilizations in 2009 , the total comes to 20,555 armed groups operating outside the law which have abandoned the ranks of these groups since the 7th of August to date.
