Quibdó. During three days officers, officer candidates and soldiers from the 15th Brigade stationed in the city of Quibdó – Chocó, received training on Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law
In this seminar/workshop taking place at the Universidad Tecnológica del Chocó “Diego Luís Córdoba” with the attendance of 80 military personnel, the principal objective was to receive training on Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law in and out of combat, implementing strategies against violence on children, avoiding vulnerability and abandonment of illegally armed organizations.
Likewise, another objective was to strengthen, preevent and protect human rights of indigenous populations, as well as those of Afro-descendents and the civil population in general wherever there is presence of the Armed Forces, highlighting the responsibility that Military Commanders and uniformed personnel have regarding all actions that their men perform in military operations, aiming at transparency in all of their acts.
Likewise, within the issues presented by expert consultants from International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights, the legitimacy of the institution was highlighted as it plays an important role in maintaining order and recovering peace within the postulates of the Defense and Democratic Security Policy put forth by the Presidency of the Republic.
The seminar has been taking place in all military units throughout the country and it will continue taking place throughout the year.
