At the ‘San Jorge’ regiment was presented the ninth version of the Commando Forces 2012 which will take place at the Military Fort Tolemaida from the 6th to the 14th of June and with the participation of 22 countries from America.
Colombia will be the host of the military exercise, of a sportive character, which was designed with the purpose of strengthening the relations between the members from the Armed Forces of the Continent, in order to share skills, techniques and tactics in the specific tasks of counterterrorism.
The games were sponsored by the Southern Command and the Special Operations Command from the United States by eight years, having different host countries.
The games were presented by the Commander of the Military Forces, General Alejandro Navas who pointed out that till today eight games took place in the past: the first at El Salvador 2004, with 16 countries. The other ones in Chile, Paraguay, Honduras, United States, Brazil, Dominican Republic. The next one will be again in Chile.
These military games will be parallel to the Distinguished Visitors Program.
Contestants
The military games will have 22 countries from America: Bahamas, Belize, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, United States, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Dominican Republic, Surinam, Trinity and Tobago and Uruguay.
The countries send a delegation from their Elite Forces, made up by seven contestants and a judge, who will test their combat skills against the terrorism by assault and shooting teams.
From Colombia was selected among all the men from the Special Forces from the three Military Branches. For this process they selected four men from the Army, two from the Navy and one from the Air Force.
There are 17 tests divided in three groups: five assault, seven high precision shooting and five combined events. All the tests will take place in the military base of Tolemaida. The ceremony will be on next June 6th and will end on June 14th at 10:00 am
