Cadet Ingrid Méndez Castillo was crowned champion of the Fifth Adult National Ranking in Fencing in the past days.
Cadet Ingrid Méndez Castillo, who belongs to the Company of Athletes of the Military School of Cadets (ESMIC by its acronym in Spanish), won a gold medal on April 7 during the Fifth National Ranking in the adult category, the most important fencing competition of the country.
Méndez, who competed against Vanessa Serna, the country number one in the national ranking, representative of the Valle del Cauca League, said that she was greatly surprised by this achievement, which encourages her to continue training to obtain more victories for her Military School.
Mendez, champion of the Fifth National Ranking, said: It was a great surprise because reaching the final was quite difficult. I played as if I had never played a final because that was what I trained for. I was mentalized to give my best and get a good result.
During this competition specialized in foil, all the athletes representing the leagues of each department of the country participated, even Military Forces such as the Air Force, the National Navy and the Police.
Ingrid Méndez wishes, after achieving this result, to win the Interschool Games and to be able to give that victory to the National Army, to reach a higher score in the national ranking and to participate in the National Games of 2019.
