In an academic setting, the Center for Military Education (CEMIL) and CEMIL’s Postgraduate Program in University Teaching brought together faculty, researchers, academic administrators, graduate students, and the higher education community for the Second Symposium on the Impacts of New Educational Methodologies on the Military Forces’ Training System, held on May 28 in the General Álvaro Valencia Tovar Auditorium at the Army Infantry School.
This academic gathering provided an opportunity to share experiences and reflections on the day-to-day practice of university teaching, digital transformation, and the impact of technology and artificial intelligence on educational processes. The symposium highlighted the importance of changes in higher education and how they are closely linked to the emergence of new technologies and digital tools aimed at enhancing student learning.
In addition, the symposium delved into tools such as artificial intelligence and the new challenges and opportunities facing the dynamics of instructors in military education within complex settings such as the Armed Forces in Latin American regions.
The symposium was divided into two sessions: the first was dedicated to the presentation of the capstone projects from the 26th cohort of the Postgraduate Program in University Teaching, from which the book Transformative Pedagogical Practices in Military Education emerged. Comprising five chapters, it covers topics such as digital literacy and the use of artificial intelligence in teaching, the implementation of flipped classroom strategies in military training, the strengthening of digital competencies among teachers at the Center for Military Education, digital pedagogical mediation for the training of critical professionals, and the challenges associated with the development of emerging competencies in higher education.
Together, these contributions present reflections and strategies aimed at updating teaching practices in light of current educational demands.
The second session featured a panel of experts composed of five military attachés from different countries in the Americas, including Colonel Leonardo Xavier Quintanilla Ayala, Ecuador’s Defense and Military Attaché, who is distinguished by his master’s degrees in Land Military Strategy, University Teaching, and Educational Management; Major Uziel Reyes García, a pilot and staff officer from Mexico, who holds a Master’s degree in Strategy and Geopolitics and has completed various teacher training and professional development courses; and Colonel Pedro Isidro Causarano Pereira from Paraguay, who holds a Bachelor’s degree in Military Sciences, a postgraduate program in Higher Military Education, and training in Strategic Leadership from the Institute of Higher Strategic Studies.
Also participating were Colonel Lincoyan Patricio, from the Republic of Chile, who stands out as a military academy professor and has completed a Training and Management course; and Major Carlos Betancur, an Exchange Operations Officer from the United States Army.
Meanwhile, CEMIL Director Colonel Jorge Triviño Charry emphasized the importance of sharing experiences, exchanging knowledge, and strengthening pedagogical practices in line with the demands of a constantly evolving educational environment, as well as providing prudent guidance on ICT and artificial intelligence.
Through such initiatives, CEMIL continues to foster academic reflection, pedagogical innovation, and inter-institutional collaboration, reaffirming its commitment to educational excellence and the transformation of military education.
