«I wake up every day and give thanks for my life, my family, and my work»

He clearly recounts each of the military units in which he has served, as if they were tests he had passed, peaks he had reached, achievements he had accomplished. In his account, he mentioned at least three departments in southeastern Colombia and ended in the Catatumbo region of Norte de Santander, his current unit, which allowed him to be covered in glory thanks to his dedicated work, which he does quietly without expecting anything in return.

It was in Norte de Santander where he made a decisive contribution to restoring freedom to some Colombians in the midst of a military operation about which he gives no further details, faithful to his philosophy of quiet and reserved work; a formula he adopted from the beginning of his career as a professional soldier and which began to bear fruit in mid-2011, when he was given the opportunity to advance in his military career and take a course to become a non-commissioned officer, as well as being recently awarded at the thirteenth Noche de Honor (Night of Honor).

He is proud to belong to the Unified Action Group for Personal Freedom, Gaula Militar Norte de Santander, because from there he is contributing to the security and development of the inhabitants of the Catatumbo region, which has been severely affected by violence. "When we free a kidnapped person, we are giving them back their life," he says with an unwavering frankness that only those who have lived through that experience themselves can understand.

Life stories like this, in which men and women of the National Army give their best, are highlighted and rewarded each year at the Noche de Honor, an event designed to recognize those who, through their military specialties, overcome obstacles and demonstrate their professionalism for the benefit of Colombians.
