Members of the Mobile Brigade no. 8 found a mortar, two grenades and explosive material. A minefield composed of four artifacts was deactivated.
While developing operations and fulfilling the constitutional mandate, the members of the Mobile Brigade no. 8, Unit assigned to the Zeus Task Force, found and destroyed an illegal warehouse with explosives. It was located in the village of Puerto Limón, in the Gaitania precinct of Planadas. Furthermore, the troops of this Military Unit deactivated a minefield in the village Los Andes, located in this municipality as well.
As a result of Military Intelligence work and based on information provided by the community, it was possible to find and destroy this illegal warehouse containing a mortar, two grenades, seven kilograms of pentonite, and explosive elements. The neutralized material had been buried for about two years.
Deactivating a minefield
The operations for neutralizing the minefield were carried out in Los Andes, village of the municipality of Planadas. Area registration and territorial control procedures allowed the soldiers of this military unit to find this field, which had four explosive devices. This filed was located 70 meters from the main access road to this village, endangering the integrity of the communities.
Immediately, the troops of the Mobile Brigade no. 8 carried out detonation procedures along with the Explosion and Detonation Group (EXDE in Spanish), thus destroying the explosives in a controlled manner. The minefield had been buried for over a year.
According to Military Intelligence work, the neutralized explosives, as well as other major findings, would belong to illegal armed groups that committed criminal acts in this zone of the department in the past.
The effectiveness of the Zeus Task Force Military Units is the consequence of sustained work in the jurisdiction and of the support of the community that relies on the work of the Multimission Heroes, providing important information that allows hindering the terrorist actions of illegal armed groups. In this way, it is important to remind the community the importance of reporting any action that disturbs the security in the south of Tolima.
