The detainees were placed at the disposal of the competent authorities.
These individuals identified themselves as members of that terrorist group to generate terror and anxiety among the civilian population residing in the areas surrounding the El Prodigio village. They also claimed to belong to the Gulf Clan or other criminal organizations, depending on the public order context of the department.
In the last few hours, the troops of the National Army and agents of the Technical Investigation Corps of the Office of the Attorney General of Colombia took into custody four people who passed themselves off as members of the ELN, in areas surrounding the El Prodigio village in the municipality of San Luis.
The military operation that allowed the arrest of these four individuals, who dedicated to extort merchants, kidnap and generate anxiety among the residents of that area of eastern Antioquia, was carried out following the reports of the Network of Allies for Prosperity and the subsequent articulated work carried out by the 4th and 14th Brigades and the Specialized Prosecutors Office No. 53 of Rionegro.
Alias Jean Carlos, alias Negro, alias Don Berna and alias El Viejo were part of a criminal organization dedicated to extort and kidnap citizens in the general area of eastern Antioquia, with a special focus on the municipality of San Luis. Depending on the security reported by the media, they identified themselves as members of the ELN or the Gulf Clan to generate fear among the community residing in the sector.
In addition, these subjects are allegedly responsible for kidnapping five people for more than 12 hours on Friday, February 9 on a farm in the village of El Prodigio municipality of San Luis. The detainees passed themselves off as members of the ELN, were dressed in military garments and carried firearms of short and long range demanding a high amount of money to release them. After a military operation carried out by the 7th Army Division, it was possible to restore freedom to the five people affected and the necessary actions were taken to finally arrest alias Jean Carlos, alias Negro, alias Don Berna and alias El Viejo.
Four firearms, more than 50 cartridges of different calibers and three cell phones with information that will serve as evidence were confiscated. These subjects will be made available to the Municipal Criminal Court of Rionegro for the crimes of simple kidnapping, extortion, and possession, trafficking and manufacture of firearms. Alias Don Berna will also be prosecuted for the crime of prison escape, since he was sentenced to home confinement for the criminal use of stolen goods.
