As a symbol of peace, the Integral Action and Development Battalion No. 5 leads a campaign for the massive planting of native trees, and the production and delivery of 2200 vegetables.
In order to recover water sources, reforest areas declared as free of suspicion of mines and contribute to the socioeconomic development of the region, the Fifth Division, the Sixth Brigade, the Operative Command for Stabilization and Consolidation Zeus, the Integral Action and Development Command and the Faith in Colombia program are developing a campaign for producing, donating and sowing native vegetables and trees in the department of Tolima.
The first campaign aims at producing 30000 vegetables included in the market basket such as tomato, cilantro, chard, carrot and others to encourage vulnerable communities and rural inhabitants to grow the food they can produce in their homes and farms, and thus contribute to the improvement of the quality of life of the population. To date, in the municipality of Chaparral, the community of the Las Americas neighborhood has received 700 seedlings, while 500 seedlings were planted in the Vereda Potrerito de Agua; in addition, a center for children with disabilities was enabled and a school garden was installed and delivered with over 1500 vegetable seedlings.
The second campaign consists of producing 30000 seedlings of vulnerable tree species such as Colombian pine tree and pink cedar, among others in order to develop activities to reforest water sources and areas declared as free of suspicion of antipersonnel mines.
With this initiative in the municipality of Chaparral, our soldiers have planted over 1000 species of rosy trumpet tree, jacaranda, pink cedar and oak, among others. In the San Antonio sector, by the Las Mesetas stream, they planted 300 trees, and other 100 trees in the municipality of Rioblanco during the delivery of 21 villages free of suspicion of antipersonnel mines. Furthermore, in Villarica, they delivered 150 trees to the Technical School Los Alpes, for a mall located at the entrance of the municipality; in Ataco, in support of the Land Operations Battalion No. 19 150 trees were donated and in the north of the department, in the municipality of Lebanon, in the village of Bulgaria, while carrying out a development support activity, they gave the community 250 trees.
It is worth noting that in the next few days, other 3000 trees will be planted on the Tetuán River, which is bordered by San Antonio and Chaparral; this as a conservation mechanism for the new catfish species identified a year ago by the zoology research group of the Universidad del Tolima.
In this way, the National Army reiterates its commitment to the community by contributing to the conservation and recovery of the environment.
Faith in the cause!
