New commander takes charge of the First Brigade of the National Army in Boyacá

The ceremony was presided over by Brigadier General Carlos Ernesto Marmolejo Cumbe, commander of the Fifth Division of the National Army, accompanied by the governor of Boyacá, Carlos Amaya Rodríguez, as well as representatives of the different levels of government in the department, municipal mayors, and spokespersons from various Boyacá trade associations.

Colonel Vargas Fonseca, a native of Aquitania, Boyacá, and a member of the Infantry, assumes command of nearly 4,000 soldiers who make up the First Brigade, a military unit responsible for 119 municipalities in the department.

With 28 years of service in the institution, Colonel Vargas Fonseca has carried out important actions for the benefit of Colombia's security and defense, serving in departments such as Valle del Cauca, Córdoba, and Cundinamarca, among others. He arrives from the 5th Rapid Deployment Force, with a commitment to strengthening stability and security conditions in this region of the country.

During his speech, the new commander stated that he assumes this responsibility with total dedication and commitment to the constitutional mission of providing security and ensuring the well-being of the population.

For his part, Colonel Eddy Raúl Cardona Restrepo, outgoing commander of the First Brigade, expressed his gratitude to the soldiers for their work during his tenure, as well as to the authorities and the Boyacá community for their ongoing support.

The ceremony was attended by men and women of the First Brigade of the National Army, who, with martial spirit and honor, adorned the Plaza de Bolívar in Tunja, reaffirming their commitment to the security and tranquility of the region.
