Our General Commander of the Military Forces Command personally verified the operational deployment in this part of the country.
As part of Plan Democracy 2026,
the National Army’s Omega Task Force continues to strengthen the security measures that will be implemented to ensure the smooth conduct of the first round of the presidential election on May 31 in the departments of Meta, Caquetá, and Guaviare.
More than 3,000 soldiers will be deployed in a third security ring through joint, coordinated, and interagency military operations with the Colombian Navy, the Colombian Aerospace Force, the National Police, civil authorities, and oversight agencies,
with the aim of fostering conditions of peace, transparency, and the free exercise of the right to vote in southeastern Colombia. The operational plan includes intelligence capabilities, as well as land, river, and air mobility, along with a permanent institutional presence in urban and rural areas of 10 priority municipalities: La Macarena, Mesetas, La Uribe, Vista Hermosa, and Puerto Rico in Meta; San José del Guaviare, El Retorno, and Calamar in Guaviare; and San Vicente del Caguán and Cartagena del Chairá in Caquetá.
In total, the troops will provide security at more than 58 polling stations and approximately 138 voting tables, protecting nearly 45,000 eligible voters. As part of the strategic monitoring of the operational deployment’s progress, General Hugo Alejandro López Barreto, commander of the General Command of the Military Forces, visited the La Macarena Military Fort in the department of Meta, where he verified the military capabilities in place for the conduct of the democratic process and held meetings with commanders committed to electoral security in the region.
During the visit, Brigadier General Mario Geovanni Contreras Guineme, commander of the Omega Task Force,
reaffirmed the troops’ institutional commitment to protecting the civilian population and consolidating constitutional order, noting that the deployed men and women will remain in place before, during, and after Election Day to contribute to the security of voters, poll workers, election materials, and strategic infrastructure.
Omega Task Force reaffirms its commitment to democracy, governance, and territorial stability, inviting citizens to actively participate in the election and to report any situation that seeks to disrupt public order through the toll-free hotlines: 107 for counter-terrorism, 157 for anti-corruption, and 147 for kidnapping and extortion.
