With more than 21 years of service, Lieutenant Colonel Andrea Casas Ortiz stands out for her commitment and dedication to the institution as Director of Information Technology and Communications for the Recruitment and Reserve Control Command, which has earned her an award in the Military Innovation category at the National Army's Night of Honor 2025.
Her career in the institution began as a civilian in 1998, and she later took an administrative course as a systems engineer. Her work in maintaining IT resources was present in the Non-Commissioned Officers School and units such as the Personnel Directorate, Brigade No. 30, and the Army IT Directorate, among others. She currently performs these activities in 12 military zones and 60 districts nationwide.
The development of an innovative information system for data processing has made her one of the most outstanding officers, which is reason enough to be recognized at La Noche de Honor (Night of Honor). "What we did was to create a single system that could interoperate not only with our Ministry of Defense's SIATH human resources information system, but also with the National Civil Registry. This helped us greatly to have a real flow of information from the registration of a soldier to their incorporation," says the officer.
Thinking about the needs of the Force and thanks to her skills, this officer and her team managed to facilitate and streamline the processes of registering data for incorporation into the institution. "Thanks to this information system, from the moment of registration, we are preventing citizens from having to provide their data multiple times. Additionally, all our doctors, psychologists, and dentists no longer have to write on forms, saving on paper costs," says Lieutenant Colonel Casas.
Recognition of her dedication and spirit of service transcends the barriers of work to connect with family ties, the news of the award at the Night of Honor prompted her family, consisting of her husband, mother, sister, and nieces, to shower the officer with congratulations. There was also a feeling of longing for her father, who is in heaven.
This engineer's knowledge and dedication will continue to serve the institution. One of her plans is to continue developing the second part of this information system, a project that, according to her, is not only intended to define the military situation, but is also the first part of the human talent cycle, such as the incorporation of officers, non-commissioned officers, and professional soldiers, taking into account new technologies such as information systems, artificial intelligence, and other tools that help improve processes within the institution.
