The National Army, National Police, and DEA strike a blow against a drug trafficking network in Nariño after seizing nearly two tons of cocaine

The military operation, which led to the discovery of the drugs, took place in the rural area of Trejos, in Mar de Mosquera, Nariño. There, troops located a laboratory for the production of illicit substances with a monthly production capacity of two tons of cocaine.

In this coca-growing complex, consisting of six structures, 1,710 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride and nearly 700 gallons of cocaine in suspension were seized, along with equipment and machinery necessary for the production of narcotics.

Through military intelligence and judicial investigation, it was established that this laboratory belonged to an independent criminal organization with transnational reach, which coordinated illegal outsourcing schemes with the Jacobo Arenas Bloc residual organized armed group (GAO-r).

The narcotics produced were transported by land from Ricaurte and San Lorenzo, in Nariño, to Esmeraldas, in Ecuador. It was subsequently shipped to the United States through international waters near Guatemala, Honduras, and Mexico.

This military operation directly impacts the GAO-r’s illicit economies by approximately 220 million pesos (about 60,000 USD). Additionally, it prevented the circulation of nearly 2 million doses of cocaine.

The National Army will continue to combat the scourge of drug trafficking and other transnational threats facing the country by deploying its units throughout the national territory. It will also strive to ensure the peace and well-being of its citizens.
