The National Army hosted a visit from the commander of the U.S. Army South as part of efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation

This important meeting allowed for the consolidation of joint lines of action aimed at strengthening interoperability, the exchange of capabilities, and the fulfillment of common strategic objectives in the areas of security and defense.

During the visit, topics regarding regional challenges and opportunities for cooperation in various operational domains were discussed, highlighting the importance of maintaining ongoing coordination between the Colombian and U.S. Armed Forces. Likewise, the institutional commitment to continue strengthening bilateral ties, which have historically contributed to stability, hemispheric security, and the development of joint capabilities, was emphasized.

As part of the event, a ceremony was held to present the U.S. Army Legion of Merit and Meritorious Service medals, awarded by the President of the United States pursuant to the Act of Congress of July 20, 1942. These distinctions recognize the exceptional service and outstanding leadership of members of the Colombian National Army, who have contributed significantly to strengthening military relations between the two nations.

In this regard, Brigadier General Yor William Cotua Muñoz and Colonel José Luis Bastidas Moreno were awarded the Legion of Merit medal at the officer level. Similarly, the Meritorious Service Medal was awarded to Command Sergeant Major Diego Fabián Rodríguez Arias.

The distinguished officers and non-commissioned officers were honored for their exceptional service as military attachés and for their tireless work in promoting strong bilateral ties between Colombia and the United States. Their efforts were instrumental in facilitating communication at the highest levels of leadership, contributing to the strengthening of both nations’ strategic objectives and to increased interoperability across all domains.

The exceptional effort, outstanding leadership, and personal initiative of the honorees reflect a high degree of professionalism and commitment, bringing honor to the Colombian National Army and the country. These qualities continue to consolidate the institution as a regional leader in international cooperation and military capacity development.
